Over a decade ago Eric ‘Hoji’ Hjorleifson clicked into his signature Renegade powder ski for the first time and launched his iconic ski career, pioneering human powered big mountain descents. At 122mm underfoot, the Renegade is Eric’s biggest and most badass powder weapon. Designed ski to conquer big lines and deep snow at a weight that still enables you to tour further into the mountains and away from the lift lines. The Renegade is light and nimble on your feet, yet extremely solid and stable in gnarly descents, big pillow lines and bottomless powder. Its unique rocker profile enables you to feather your way through technical terrain and ditch speed or slash at the drop of a dime. Click into the Renegade and charge your way through those lines you’ve always dreamed of, just like Hoji does!

After experimenting for years in the Whiteroom, we discovered that the addition of a Neoprene insert in the tip of the ski drastically reduced chatter, increased overall damping, and helped eliminate frustrating tip delamination.

Ski snapped in front of binding

Bought the skis for heli skiing in 2021 but the trip was cancelled. 2022 I managed 2 days of heli skiing on them and then this year I finally got to use them in anger only for one of the renegades to snap in front of the binding. BTW I had never remounted these skis. Because I was in Northern BC I didn’t want to ship my broken skis back to the UK and unfortunately I didn’t take all the photos required to satisfy 4Frnt’s warranty. Customer service have denied my warranty claim straight away. Don’t buy these skis. 4Frnt’s great 3 year warranty is full of clauses. The renegades I bought clearly got faults and the Customer Service is a joke… This was my second pair of 4Frnt skis I bought and now the last!

Hoot hoot!

This is my spirit ski. Skiing is quantifiably more fun on it. Full rocker means it skis shorter than it looks. Wider waist floats you right to the top in powder, but it also provides enough heft to plow through chop and crud between fresh stashes. Reflective rocker means you can lay down an edge and carve when you want to. The build quality is top notch. The Renegade is LOL fun in powder, as expected, but the real surprise is how well it skis everything else. I’m 6’3”, 210lbs and have the 190cm. I intended to use it for free touring (CAST + Pivot 15s), but my experience even on days that aren't knee deep has got me re-evaluating my quiver. The things this ski does well are manyfold…. manyfold more than the stats and dated takes on ski profiles might lead you to believe. I’m not here to preach the gospel of full rocker skis because I like skiing, not preaching, but I also have the Ravens as my primary touring setup so I am willing to testify. They can be driven hard, but they’re happy and floaty fun at a leisurely pace in the trees, flat or on edge. They are very stable in steep terrain and can turn quickly when they need to but are also a blast to charge straight down the fall line, eating up bumps and jumps along the way. This is a transformational kind of a ski — nothing to prove but so much to offer.

Always bring your Renegades

My favourite powder specific ski to date . I work and live in northern BC as a heli ski guide . Our small local ski hill , Shames and the surrounding mountains are known for deep days . I mounted a set of Look piviot 18 with CAST touring set up to be used primarily for heli ski guiding but also be able to tour on when doing the deep days at Shames and whatever else I might want to do on my off work days . I mounted back 1cm off the recommendation following some advice Kevin Harjes had in the MTN site regarding the Hoji ski and speaking with Eric over text a little ( moving back a bit if your boot sole is longer puts your ball of your foot where his is and I’m 40 lb heavier ) . This new version has more rocker in the tail so I think I could have gotten away with .5 cm and got the same effect but it works really good for skiiing some of the flatter commercial heli ski runs we ski at times . So far I’ve skied this ski in 50 cm of costal slop , every type of crust imaginable, wind hammered sastrugi and 40 cm hero snow and it’s all felt better than it would have on any other ski I’ve owned in the past ( DPS , atomic backlands/ automatics , BD megawatts , QST 106,112 blanks and 118 . Lately I been skiing 185 - 188 skis for powder but opted for the 191 size since it was mostly for heli guiding . These skis have put huge smiles on my face day after day at work and feel they were worth buying even though I could ski the lodge skis ( elan rip stick116 ) for free if I wanted to at work . Since last spring I been touring on Hoji 112 and would be curious to see how a future version with similar tail rocker of the new renagade would be or if it’s best to keep it like it is for spring and hard snow versatility .

Renegade 191

I picked up a pair of the Renegade 191s and could not be happier. Ski them with a centered stance and mount on the line with small feet, back a bit with bigger feet. I'm in a 308 BSL and ski the 1cm back. which is perfect The ski can handle as much speed as you can give them, yet is super nimble is tight trees. This is my powder tool for deep days. I also have the Hoji 191 for anything from groomers to powder and they are the best 50/50 ski I've ever been on. All other skis have been sold and it's not only Hoji and Renegade. The only two skis you'll ever need.
