Mallory Duncan releases his latest creative project, "LINES"

Siver Voll Keep it

What does it feel like to stand on the edge - whether on a snowy backcountry slope or a dimly lit stage?

LINES, an 8-minute experimental narrative short ski film directed by Josh Goldsmith and written by skier Mallory Duncan, follows the interwoven journeys of a skier and a rapper as they navigate the critical moments before performance - where apprehension turns to belief, and preparation meets presentation.

Filmed entirely via human-powered backcountry access, andshot in part on 16mm film, LINES offers a visually unique, and emotionally raw experience set against the stunning backcountry of the Eastern Sierra and Lake Tahoe, California, and Seattle’s culturally significant Columbia City neighborhood.

Mallory blown away at mountain

LINES stars skier, Mallory Duncan, and Seattle-based rapper, Chima the stubborn, whose original music forms a vital part of the narrative as their journeys unfold side-by-side, connected by the universal moment before the show begins.

Cinematography by Ben Ericson, Nkosi Roma, Mike Koziel, Nick Cahill, Hazen Woolson, and Jake Burchmore captures the tension, release, and artistry that define both disciplines - the film breaks the mold of traditional ski films. Its raw emotional tension builds to moments of release, crafted through the careful lens of editor DJ Scott and the visionary direction of Josh Goldsmith.

LINES was produced by Big Giant, led by Goldsmith, alongside Duncan’s Uhuru Mountain Collective, with Goldsmith, Duncan, and Sofia Jaramillo as Executive Producers on the years-long project that is a spiritual successor to Mallory’s hit debut film, The Blackcountry Journal.
