Eric Hjorleifson is the mad scientist of skis. He's constantly building and improving - transforming his gear and expanding what's possible. From his early days in the White Room to his own basement workshop, Hoji is always crafting up a new prototype to further develop his signature collection. We strapped a GoPro to Hoji's head for a day in the shop so you could see the process...

Eric laying carbon fiber stringers which provide an increased strength with very little added weight. This is one of six different lay-ups Eric tried to find the perfect construction.

Power tools and Eric's skiing style go together well. Chop saws and routers are two tools that Eric relies on in the prototype process. Here he is chopping edges to length and getting the ski ready to lay in the edges.

The best test is skiing and it doesn't take long for one of Hoji's proto skis to get on snow. Afterall... if they aren't fun on the deepest days than whats the point. It helps when Hoji has the endless terrain of Whistler right out his back door.

Once Hoji's happy with a proto, they make their way out to the team. Erme Catino and Sam Watson seen here putting Renegade protos to the test in the Wasatch range.

Eric on a pair of prototype Renegades. The finished product skis better on Powder than any ski you've ever clicked into.
