"Eric Hjorleifson here. I have been involved with 4FRNT’s ski design for 20 years, man I feel old just saying that, haha! Today I'm happy to introduce my first brand-new ski with 4FRNT in a decade, the NEVAR. A 104mm underfoot, CAMBERED (my first ever) versatile touring ski. Releasing this Thursday, 9/12.

The fact of the matter is that I joined 4FRNT two decades ago to be involved with ski design and be a part of the revolution of skiing as we know it. Over that time we've never lost our experimental attitude. We've had many wild concepts and crazy shapes that were tested and dismissed, a lot of mistakes were made but ultimately we really learned a great deal and refined designs year after year until we arrived at what we know today as the modern Freeride ski.

Lets call it pride, but I've embraced a Renegade attitude for so long (going against the tide) that it is difficult to admit that there is a reason the majority of people accept the norm and flow in the same direction sometimes: Rocker vs Camber, is the perfect example. Both designs offer advantages in specific conditions and offer superior overall performance attributes.

When it comes to versatility and performance in a wide range of conditions, its hard to argue against skis with camber (believe me I have tried ;) Putting your own ambitions and pride aside is not the easiest thing to do but I believe it illustrates maturity and an open-minded approach. I’ve realized that over the years I had inadvertently developed the same self-entitled attitude (We know best) as the traditional European ski brands we rebelled against two decades ago, life spins in funny circles I guess!

With the NEVAR, our goal was to create a touring ski with excellent performance in a wide variety of snow conditions = Arcing smooth high-speed turns on hard-pack, nimble and responsive in tight terrain, and of course popping airplane turns off pillows in powder. This ski serves as a balance to the Raven and our other reverse cambered skis, hence the name N E V A R (Raven backwards).

A unique combination of performance features were developed through the collaboration of 4FRNT veteran Trygve Sonde from Norway, 4FRNT’s head ski engineer Bob Boice, and myself. Trygve led the team with insight and requested for this ski to handle the rugged snow conditions commonly found skiing in Norway and Bob added his wealth of ski design knowledge acquired over several decades. The results speak for themselves, I find myself choosing the new Nevar as my new weapon of choice, and I hope you will too.

Ciao,
Eric"
